Healthy Brain, Happy Life 2

Every year for the past several years I have wanted to get my life more organized, more together. One area where I have failed over and over is getting into the habit of working out again. I could tell you that one thing or another comes up, which would be true, but…it’s also a lame excuse. UGH! I want to be motivated to get into shape, and live a happy, healthy life. This is one of the reasons that I purchased the book “Healthy Brain, Happy Life”.

What I have taken away from the next couple of chapters…

Memories that have emotion, are more memorable than others. I love the experiment of learning lists of words, and connecting them through humor. Making a memory of the string of words that are a little nonsensical, but fun. Chester Santos gives a great demonstration of the experiment, and how you can do it too.

We tend to remember what we pay attention to.

Linking and associating something new to something old helps us recall the information better

Emotional memory was really a survival instinct that has been with us since our early days. It helped us with good responses, and dangerous ones. Laughing, crying, screaming, fearful emotions are the ones we remember.

Exercise improves memory and your overall health. When we chant positive affirmations while we exercise it makes us more powerful, and makes the serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine increase in the bloodstream. The more we exercise, the more we make the connection of these properties being GOOD. Adding the affirmations makes your exercise more intentional. These boost your mood more than exercise alone!

What kind of affirmations will you use? I just added “Just Dance” to my Apple TV…

Happy New Year! Welcome 2015

Honestly, I don’t have too much to complain about…I am happy with where I am in life. I have a wonderful family, live in paradise, and feel very blessed every single day. So, I just need to step up, and make my life better. I have put together a top ten intentions for 2015.

1.) Eat cleaner more wholesome food.

2.) Exercise everyday…do something for at least 30 minutes.

3.) Pine needle tea everyday, and a glass of wine.

4.) Blog everyday…writing is a wonderful catharsis.

5.) Obtain a winery or vineyard.

6.) Find beauty in everything, everyday!

7.) Become more active with a charity.

8.) Plant my wildflowers

9.) Plant my straw garden

10.) Start my museum.

Healthy Choices

Well, I made it 12 days, and now I have to start all over again. I have wrestled with continuing or starting over, but I want to do it right, so I have made up my mind to start over again. I want to make it for the entire 21 days. This is something that I just want to do for myself so there is no reason to try to cheat myself. So, as much as I hate it that I have failed, and must start again…I know I am doing it for a great reason.

I am going to make it this time! Right?

Fountain of Youth

Today is the start of a new day. Duh! Everyday is a start of a new day. Right? Today, I am going to start to whip my butt into shape. I did not get started on New Years, I just did not have it in me. I was looking through some photos the other day, and ask myself “Is this how I want people to see me?” UGH! No, is the answer. How did this happen? Pizza, chocolate, chips, all the regular stars of food doom. I know this stuff is bad for me, but the YUM!

I remember in after I graduated from High School I was very selective about what I ate. Not so much in the last 17 years.

So, I am thinking if I force myself to share once a week about getting in shape, then I will have to follow through. I want to be motivated!

Here is a recent photo, I will start posting every week to swim through the fountain of youth. Maybe we can help each other together.IMG_0697

Yep, 3rd Time is a Charm

This is turning out to be like a prison bracelet, well, not really. I still haven’t made it 21 days of working out to make it a habit. Every time, I have allowed my business to come first. So, now what? How do I put me first? How do I make my tenants wait for at least a half an hour? I just have to start over, I don’t see another way to get it done. Is it more beneficial to workout at home or go to the gym? I am getting pretty tired of wearing my bracelet. UGH! Make it a habit
